The room is where network problems get expensive

Most of a commercial network is hidden in walls and ceilings where nobody touches it for a decade. The server room is the opposite. It is the one place where every change lands, and where poor work compounds fastest.

A room with unlabeled patching, mixed cable grades and no slack management costs time on every single move, add and change. A room built properly stays legible years later, and an engineer who has never been on site can work in it without guessing.

We build and rebuild these rooms for offices, warehouses, healthcare sites and multi-tenant buildings across Chicagoland, either as part of a wider cabling project or as a standalone piece of work.

Typical room build

Scoped as one package so the cabling, racks and labeling match from day one.

  • Rack and cabinet installation
  • Copper and fiber backbone termination
  • Patch panel and port mapping
  • Overhead or underfloor containment
  • Power distribution coordination
  • As-built records and labeling

What the work covers

Racks and cabinets

Floor-standing and wall-mount, leveled, bonded and laid out with service access front and rear.

Backbone termination

Copper and fiber risers terminated, tested and brought into the room on a planned port map.

Patch panel build

Panels loaded and mapped so port numbers match the outlet numbers on the floor.

Cable management

Horizontal and vertical managers, slack loops and bend radius kept inside spec.

Containment and pathways

Ladder rack, basket tray and conduit routed clear of power and clear of future work.

Labeling and as-builts

Every panel, port and run labeled to a consistent scheme, with records handed over.

How a room build runs

01

Survey

We assess the room, the power, the entry points and what has to stay live during the work.

02

Port map

Panel and port assignments are agreed before any termination starts.

03

Build

Racks, containment and panels go in, then backbone and horizontal runs are dressed and terminated.

04

Test

Every run is tested and the results recorded against the port map.

05

Handover

You receive labeling, as-built records and test documentation for the room.

Choosing the backbone

A quick orientation on what tends to suit which room. We confirm the right answer on site rather than by rule of thumb.

Backbone typeTypical useWorth knowing
Cat6A copperFloor-to-floor risers under 90 meters, PoE-heavy deploymentsSupports 10G and high PoE loads. Distance limited, so riser placement matters.
OM4 multimode fiberBuilding backbones, rack-to-rack in larger roomsCost-effective over campus and riser distances where copper will not reach.
OS2 singlemode fiberBetween buildings, long campus runs, carrier handoffLongest reach and the most headroom for future bandwidth.
Mixed copper and fiberMost commercial roomsFiber for the backbone, copper to the floor. The common, practical build.

Rooms we work in

Office comms rooms

Single and multi-floor fit-outs where the IDF has to serve a whole floorplate.

Warehouse and distribution

Rooms serving large footprints, scanners, WiFi and industrial equipment.

Healthcare sites

Clinics and medical offices where uptime and documentation both matter.

Multi-tenant buildings

Shared risers and demarc rooms where several tenants rely on the same pathways.

Manufacturing

Plant rooms where cabling has to survive a harsher environment than an office.

Room remediation

Existing rooms that have grown without a plan and need rebuilding without downtime.

Frequently asked questions

Can you work without taking the network down?

Usually yes. Most rebuilds are staged so live services move across in planned cutovers rather than all at once. We agree the sequence before we start.

Do you provide test results?

Yes. Runs are tested and the results are handed over with the labeling and as-built records.

Can you work with our existing racks?

Often. If the racks are serviceable we build around them. If they are the reason the room is a problem, we will tell you.

Do you handle the electrical work?

We coordinate with the electrical contractor on power and bonding. Licensed electrical work is carried out by the appropriate trade.

Which areas do you cover?

Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, including Naperville, Schaumburg, Aurora, Elgin, Evanston, Skokie, Niles, Des Plaines and Oak Brook.

Need a server room built or rebuilt?

Send us the site details and what the room has to support. We will come back with a scope covering racks, cabling, containment and documentation.
